Housed in a cloth chemise and morocco backed slipcase. Some rubbing to joints and edges of boards. Near fine.

Beautifully bound craftsmen's volume collecting various works on commercial law, business, stenography, bookkeeping, correspondence, penmanship, and others.  Includes A. Wolter's Der geschulte Kaufmann (6th edition, 1900); Schriftsteller und Ratgeber für Stellensuchende; W. Koppeheel's Schön- und Schnell-Schreibschule (10th edition, 1899) and others.

This copy owned and bound by Friedrich F. Allerding (1889-1959), Master Bookbinder from Lübeck who became a fixture in the Los Angeles Book Arts scene following WWI.  Allerding apprenticed as a bookbinder in Wismar before setting up his own shop in Lübeck, earning his diploma and master's certificates from the Bookbinders' Guild and Chamber of Commerce.  He served in WWI, and following the revolution of 1918, economic hardship ensued forcing him and his family to relocate to the United States, first landing in Portland, OR, and later settling in Los Angeles. After a few odd jobs, including the Moulton Company's elaborate Birds of California, by William Leon Dawson, Allerding found work at the Times-Mirror printing and binding house, where he would stay from 1928 until his retirement 20 years later.

A beautiful example of European craft binding, reflecting the traditions of the German bookbinding trade that Allerding later carried to the West Coast.
