DMT 42

Stuttgart: Edition Domberger, [1969]. First edition, number 86 of 210 copies. Folio, 17x13" with title page, 23 vibrantly colored silkscreen illustrations, and colophon signed by both Laing and Golikova (though not called for). French fold leaves, sewn, and printed rectos only. Publisher's stiff plain wrappers with black and white dust jacket, housed in printed purple cloth clamshell case with colophon additionally printed on the inside rear panel, and slipcase. Book nearly fine with light edge wear to jacket. Both purple cases damp stained, slipcase with some separation of fabric.

Beautiful and luxurious collaborative art book created in 1969 by British Pop Artist, Gerald Laing and his second wife, Galina Valentina Golikova.  The psychedelic silkscreens by Laing are complemented with a sort of hallucinatory love story by Golikova, referencing the psychoactive compound dimethyltryptamine (DMT).  The text is presented in an intentionally cryptic, circular typeface devised by Laing, where letters are formed by selectively filling in or overlaying two concentric circles with black or red ink.  A significant contribution to the Pop Art movement, equal parts artist's book and psychedelic artifact, and one of Laing's most esoteric and ambitious print projects.  Quite scarce in the trade.
