In the Crazies
Seattle: Winn Books, 1985. First edition of 190 copies, this copy out of sequence. 4to, 75pp. Title and initials in two colors, 30 tipped-in paintings by Russell Chatham throughout. Hand bound in gray morocco backed striped paper boards in blue and green, silver spine lettering, housed in an oatmeal cloth slipcase. Spine very slightly toned else a near fine copy in like case. Prospectus from the publisher laid in at front.
A beautiful Northwest book arts publication being a collaboration between Montana friends and neighbors, Russell Chatham and Thomas McGuane. The original McGuane novella is accompanied by 30 small and jewel-like landscapes painted by Chatham especially for the book. The book was designed by Scott Freutel at the Spring Valley Press in Langley, and printed by Charles E. Matson and Scott Freutel at the Winn Press, Seattle. The binding is by Marsha Hollingsworth and Judith L. Johnson of Hand Bookbinders, Port Townsend.
Somewhat surprisingly, this book is quite scarce. Of the 190 copies supposedly printed, OCLC cites 6 holdings, and we note perhaps one auction record. Item #9573
