Item #9422 Signed John Hunton Co. Receipt for Lodging and Feed. Wyoming Pioneers, John Hunton.

Signed John Hunton Co. Receipt for Lodging and Feed

Bordeaux, WY: 1888. 6x7" printed receipt filled out in autograph and signed by Hunton. Few ink stains and smudges, though very good.

Very scarce autograph from one of the early and notable pioneers of Southeastern Wyoming, Colonel John C. Hunton (1839-1928).  Hunton served for the Confederacy before moving west after the war, first to Nebraska, and then establishing his ranch along the Chugwater Creek in Bordeaux, Wyoming.  He raised thoroughbred Herford and Grade Cattle, and apparently allowed for lodgers, as this receipt shows.  He was the first president of the Wyoming Pioneer Association, and his 6-volume diaries are one of the standard pioneer memoirs of the state.
