Folkways of Christmas

Shakopee, Minnesota: Bear Publishing Co., [1981]. First edition. 8vo. 47pp. Colorful illustrated wraps, staple bound, light staining to cover, very good.

From the back cover, "Folkways of Christmas is a delightful look at the variations of celebrations of Christmas in the Minnesota River Valley in the 1800s. Many of the customs and traditions arrived with the immigrants, many were altered in America and passed on with the natural changes time itself imposes as it sharpens or mellows a folkway." This book contains recipes, decorations, and traditions and is sorted by country of origin with black and white illustrations.

The Folkways of Christmas celebration started at Murphy's Landing, now The Landing Minnesota River Heritage Park, in Shakopee, Minnesota in the mid-1970s and is still celebrated annually. It was rebranded "Folkways of the Holidays" in the early 1990s after including Jewish Hanukkah traditions in the program.
