Inscribed to William E. Old Jr. aka Bill Old, a known zoologist who specialized in marine mollusks. It also bears his ownership bookplate. The inscription reads: "for William E. Old. Jr. Pictures and text that will, I hope, remind him of the "Big Zoo" in New York while he is far away. William Bridges New York Zoological Park" with a small elephant drawn under his signature.
