Contemporary parchment over boards plainly rebacked with a later strip of paper and hand-lettered label. Some toning to page block but quite clean internally.

The second edition, in two parts, of this immensely popular book of folkloric fables from the "German Aesop" Christian Fürchtegott Gellert (1715-1769).  Gellert was an educator and wrote several books of moral fables and poems for a young audience, with clear language and simple form, based on La Fontaine.  He became quite popular in London, travelling frequently to England.
