A Christmas tradition in the Madeleine and Hugh Franklin family from 1946-1963, was to create Christmas cards with original art drawn by L'Engle, that were then hand-colored and sent to friends and family.
This card features Hugh as Santa Claus and a young Jo sitting on his and Madeleine's lap. Jo holds their cat, Perceval, and their dog, Touché sits by their feet. One card is painted messily and features Madeleine with green hair, perhaps a contribution by their young daughter. A wonderfully warm and nostalgic piece not often seen. Item #9113
