Printer's ornaments, devices, borders, vignette's throughout. 2pp of musical notation at rear. Bound in beige cloth boards stamped in black on front cover. Few bumps and scuffs to boards, clean internally and near fine.
Scarce book of poetry from American folklorist, writer, and critic, Esther Shephard (1891-1975). Shephard is most well-known for her work Paul Bunyan, published in 1924, with an illustrated edition by Rockwell Kent appearing in 1941. As a teacher, Shephard held posts at Reed College in Portland, the University of Washington in Seattle, Lower Columbia College in Longview, WA, and San Jose State University.
This collection was printed by her then husband, C. Ellis Shephard, and contains 31 pieces on topics from Seattle to Dante and Demeter.
