Lot of 15 1970s Psychedelic Pamphlets for Teens by the Seventh-day Adventist Group Voice of Prophecy
Hollywood, Ca. Wayout, 1970-1974. Eight-panel poster fold-outs measuring 5.5" x 8.5" closed and 17" x 22'' open, save "Breakaway" which is a four-panel and 17" x 11" open. Illustrated with two-tone printed psychedelic art and lettering on colored cardstock except "The Devil Made Me Do It!" which is printed in black ink on newsprint. All very good+, some with a small thumbtack hole or fading.
In 1970, the Seventh-day Adventist Church developed "The Way Out Program" as an outreach specifically designed to reach youth culture using paid advertisements on radio stations with teenage audiences for a free magazine titled Wayout. Wayout features contemporary language, striking psychedelic artwork, and covers social and personal problems that teenagers face.
Ministry Magazine describes the rest of the process in the October 1970 issue, "Within ten days of receiving Wayout magazine, the teenager gets a second mail piece. This comes unsolicited. It is a foldout, the term coined by the Voice of Prophecy's youth ministry staff to describe a new kind of print media format that opens from a 5- by 8-inch booklet into a 22- by 16-inch, poster-size spread. This first follow-up foldout is entitled, The Man From Wayout, and introduces the God-man, Jesus.
Ten days later, the second follow-up fold-out arrives, also unsolicited. It is entitled the Wayout Trip, and introduces, in a basic, four-step Bible study, the way to become a Christian. One quarter of its full-sized spread is a response sheet on which the teenager can tell the Wayout counseling staff about his personal problems and reactions to the gospel. There is also space to request one or more of the 13 Hang-ups, and/or the new teen Bible correspondence course, The High Way."
