Night Croquet [Portfolio of 8 serigraphs]

London: Kelpra Studio, 1971. Number 42 of 100 copies. Elephant folio, 38x26", title page and 8 additional silkscreen prints on cardstock, each signed, numbered, and titled in pencil by Carter at bottom. Loose as issued, and with just a few scattered light blemishes and bumps. Near fine.

Mammoth suite of vivid psychedelic prints from California artist, poet, and musician, John Randolph Carter (b. 1941).  Carter studied on a Fulbright Scholarship at the Royal College of Art in London and was later head of Graphic Design at Cal State, Fullerton.  His work has been shown at the Whitney Museum, Museum of Contemporary Craft, New Jersey State Museum, and other institutions.  His work is held in the public collections of the Metropolitan Museum, National Gallery of Art, Smithsonian, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and others.

Astronauts, magic, turtles, fantastic animals, and robots are some of the subjects featured in the portfolio, each print with a catchy title.  Carter's suite is graphic art and design at the height of the California psychedelic movement of the 60s and 70s.

OCLC cites a single holding for the portfolio at Princeton.
