Original Calligraphy Sample
Easthampton, MA: David Bourbeau, 1982. 15x22" with calligraphy alphabet and date in 1982. Signed by Bourbeau on the verso in pencil. Few light blemishes, else fine.
Very intriguing calligraphy sample which was executed by the book artist and design binder David P. Bourbeau (1942-2009) who established the Thistle Bindery in Massachusetts in 1975. Bourbeau was influenced by Leonard Baskin, and studied under Arno Werner. Hi was instrumental in the founding of the New England Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers.
The letters in this sample are scratched into the sepia ink which has perhaps been rolled on, darker and thicker in the middle where the lettering occurs, and accentuating the lines in the paper. An innovative and attractive piece. Item #8230
