Duncan Hines' Food Odyssey

New York: Thomas Y. Crowell Company, 1955. First edition. 8vo, 274pp. Signed and inscribed by Hines to the former owner on the dedication page. Drab cloth backed blue paper boards, spine lettered in blue in pictorial map illustrated jacket. Few light spots of damp staining to upper corner of front board, top edge slightly dusty. Jacket spine toned, small stain to upper corner of rear panel, and some edge rubbing. Attractive and very good.

Very well preserved, signed copy of this book from Hines, who was one of the most important figures in mid century gastronomical and travel education.  His operation had a huge impact on travelers and establishments by awarding "Recommended by Duncan Hines" display signs, and then constantly rechecking those which had received them for maintaining quality standards.  Although sometimes overlooked, Hines' influence was as important as Irma Rombauer, M.F.K. Fisher, and other food writers of the time.

This is a handsome copy of a book not often found signed and in presentable condition. Item #7773

Price: $250.00
