Modern 1/4 polished calf, cloth boards, red morocco spine label, page block edges stained. Prelims toned and with a few spots, scattered light foxing throughout. Clean, complete and nearly fine.

First edition of this important book which helped shape 17th century British Identity by royalist, physician, and writer, Robert Brady (1627-1700).  The work helped shift the perception of English history from mythical to rational, focusing on facts from political and governmental record.  The book covers the history of England from its early Anglo-Saxon period, through the Norman Conquest in 1066, and up to the reign of the Plantagenets, and examines the formation of the monarchy, development of feudalism, and role of law in shaping government.
