The Gold Rush Overland Journal of Edward C. Harrow, 1849
Austin: Michael Vinson, 1993. First edition, number 15 of 60 copies. 8vo, 84pp. Indices of place names. Publisher's oatmeal cloth with printed spine label in fine condition.
A very interesting overland journal from 1849, transcribed as the first volume in a planned Pacific Overland Narratives series by bookseller, Michael Vinson. The manuscript came from the collection of Herbert S. Auerbach, and an itinerary and index prepared for the volume by Richard Morrison. Describes in great detail a journey from Illinois to California by Harrow, whose native country is unknown. An important scholarly resource which is seemingly quite scarce in the trade, with roughly half of the print run already held by institutions. Item #7034
Price: $75.00
