Josh White was was an American singer, guitarist, songwriter, actor and civil rights activist. His career spanned many genres including blues, spirituals, protest songs, ballads, work songs, and more.  White used his music primarily to advance his passion for civil rights. He became the first black artist invited to play at the White House, was the first black singer-guitarist to star in movies and Broadway plays, and, with Libby Holman, became the first mixed-race duo to perform together at previously segregated venues throughout the United States.

This book includes 57 songs from all his notable genres as well as a biography. The inscription reads, "To a lovely friend Linda, I wish you nothing but the best of everything good and may the best of good things come to you, always. Your guy, Josh White." Item #6862
