Set of 75 plates from House Document No 51: Cattle and Dairy Farming

Beautiful, mixed set of highly detailed lithographs of various breeds of cattle by important American Lithographer, Julius Bien (1826-1909). These were produced for the large GPO publication Cattle and Dairy Farming, which included a whopping 368 numbered plates. Bien is also known for having begun a chromolithography production of Birds of America, using Audubon's original plates around 1860. The project was unfinished, but 150 plates were made. Item #5518
