The Horoscope: A Miscellany of Meteorology, the Celestial Science of Astrology, and Literature

London: William Charlton Wright, 1843. First edition. 8vo, 21.5 x 14cm, [5], 240, [1]pp. Illustrated with engravings, charts, tables. Original green, floral patterned cloth, paper spine label. Spine ends and corners worn, cloth somewhat soiled. Former owner's name to ffep. Single leaf manuscript description of Princess Charlotte of Wales tipped in at the margin of pg 45, which bears her portrait. A few other annotations in pencil else clean internally. First collected edition, January - May, 1841 of this monthly publication, with general title page and separate title pages for each issue, May being in 5 parts. English astrologer, Richard James Morrison (1795-1874), previously published his "Horoscope" as a weekly, from May - September of 1834. He would then take a six year hiatus before publishing it again in this form. The former owner has tipped in a rather neatly written description of Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales (1796-1817), whose nativity is discussed in the February issue. Written in ink, recto verso, the text comes directly from Thomas Green's "Memoirs of Her Later Royal Highness..." (1818), and includes a short section on her husband, Prince Leopold. Gardner pg 163 (in blurb on Zadkiel No. 1.). Item #4807
