The Astrologer's Guide. Anima Astrologiae; or, a Guide for Astrologers

London: George Redway, 1886. First edition. 8vo, 22.5 x 14cm, [iii] (lacking half title); xxiv, 104pp, plus fold out chart and 38, [2]pp catalogue at rear. Original red cloth decorated in black and lettered in gilt on front cover and spine. Some light soiling and toning to boards, mainly around the edges. Spine shows some dulling with bruising to ends. Ownership signature to front pastedown else clean internally. Very good. The final work from William Lilly, Anima Astrologiae, which was originally published in 1675, is reprinted here some 200 years later with notes and a preface by William C. Eldon Serjeant, giving a good idea of the lasting appeal and influence of the great English astrologer. The work is the translations of portions of the 146 Considerations by Guido Bonatus (and translated by Henry Coley, with Lilly as the editor) and seven chapters by Jérôme Cardan, which deal mainly with horary astrology and natal charts. The edition is quite scarce in the trade. Worldcat locates six possible holdings. Gardner 687. Item #4791
