New York: The Coordinating Council of French Relief Societies, Inc., [1942]. First edition. 8vo, 23.5 x 15.5cm, [28pp], staple bound, beige paper wraps with black lettering. Very good with staining and toning to covers, annotations mainly in pencil (1 in ink) throughout. A very scarce collection of recipes from the world-renowned private chef, and student of the French master, Auguste Escoffier. The booklet was sold as a benefit by the very short lived Coordinating Council of French Relief Societies, Inc., for sending aid to French prisoners of war. Donon also offered cooking lessons to benefit the council. From the Spokesman-Review newspaper, Spokane, Washington July 30th, 1942: "...a silver tea was held to aid the coordinating council of French relief societies, a society founded last month by Mrs. Irving Davis. Proceeds of this tea will buy 11-pound Red Cross food packages for some of the 1,500,000 French prisoners held in German prison camps. ...Mrs. Anthony Reynolds, chairman of the Spokane unit's knitting, presided at a table which offered for sale a cookbook by the famous chef, Joseph Donon..." Worldcat locates one holding for this booklet, at the NYPL. Item #4603
