Japanese civil engineer Katsuzo Nishi's eccentric introduction to his eponymous alternative health movement, the Nishi System. The system treats the body as an interconnected mechanical system and rejects the heart as the principal motive force of circulation in favor of the capillaries themselves. Nishi prescribes hard beds, solid pillows, the “Goldfish” and capillarity exercises, joined palms and soles, fasting, raw foods, nudity, mustard treatments, alternating hot and cold baths and other such techniques which stimulate this "miraculous cure system."
