Uncommon monograph being an early archaeological study of human trophy skulls recovered from pre-Hispanic burial sites in Argentina's Quebrada de Humahuaca.  Physical modification of the skulls is described and copiously illustrated, along with their context in ceremony, and associated pottery and artifacts.  This text is still cited in studies of Andean cultural practices and violence.
